Historic Farmhouse Kitchen
Davidson, NC
Photo placeholder Kitchen through cased opening from dining room
The project
Old houses near the Davidson green weren't built for how families cook now. We opened the wall to the dining room with a cased opening sized to the home's original proportions, kept the working side compact, and gave the range a proper vented hood — the first this house ever had.
Inset shaker cabinetry, unlacquered brass, and a soapstone perimeter keep it period-correct. Inside, it's all modern: full-extension drawers, a pull-out landing shelf beside the wall ovens, and a pantry cabinet organized like a dry-goods station.
Scope highlights
- Inset cabinetry color-matched to original 1920s trim
- Soapstone perimeter, reclaimed heart-pine open shelving
- Structural opening to dining room with period casing
- Vented 600 CFM hood, relocated range
